Project “Capacity building for university staff and media representatives in combating fake news, disinformation and misinformation campaigns”

IRID successfully completed the implementation of the project “Capacity building for university staff and media representatives in combating fake news, disinformation and misinformation campaigns

The aim of this project was to develop and enhance media literacy and information skills among university staff and students through formal education, hence introducing Media and Information Literacy trainings for University staff, students and media workers.

The project created resilience to fake news, disinformation and misinformation campaigns used mainly by domestic and foreign actors, aiming towards the euroatlantic path of North Macedonia. Media literacy and information skills are vital for future professionals and decision makers. Those competencies including critical thinking are crucial for creating future citizens that would be active actors in a democratic and resilient society and in a country where all citizens and institutions would be accountable to the same laws.

In total 10 university staff and 10 media representatives were training and equipped with valuable skills in fighting fake news and disinformation.  As final product of the project, in the concluding event of the project, a handbook was introduced in local languages (Albanian and Macedonian), which can be used as a tool for all interested parties, in their daily affairs.

The project lasted three months, with successful completion on 31 October 2022.
